Carbon Reduction
At UKOS, we are committed to carbon reduction and take our environmental responsibilities very seriously. We collaborate with clients to ensure business solutions are as sustainable as possible and provide feedback detailing the positive impact of joint decisions.
We measure our carbon emissions in accordance with Greenhouse Gas Protocol Guidelines and have achieved a reduction of 69% since 2008. The largest areas of reduction have been seen in scope 1 emissions (direct GHG emissions occurring from sources that are owned or controlled by UKOS) through the introduction of our reduced delivery schedules and our strict reduction policies in gas and electric energy at both Hemel Hempstead and Knutsford sites.
We continually strive for further reductions to meet our ever more ambitious targets.

UKOS has been included in the highly respected The Sunday Times Best Green Companies Award for 3 years running and recently ranked in 1st position – Britain’s Best Green Company.
In order to top the list UKOS led a field including some of the UK’s biggest and best known companies. The award is unique, taking into account not only carbon reduction and internal environmental management, but also the level of employee engagement and executive leadership.
DELIVERIES & PACKAGING SOLUTIONS
Our reusable packaging system allows customers to receive their deliveries in a reusable and recyclable container instead of a traditional cardboard box. The reusable box simply folds flat after delivery and is collected by our driver on his next visit. This results in a sizable reduction of cardboard use. Our warehouses also operate a re-use before recycle policy, where any incoming packing is utilised as a priority.
We also offer all of our customers Eco-Delivery Schedules, allowing our customers to reap environmental benefits, and a reduction in transactional costs.
CUSTOMER RECYCLING
UKOS has a range of workplace recycling initiatives available to support our customers’ environmental ambitions. We are amongst the market leaders in bringing new environmental initiatives to our customers. We offer initiatives that are simple to set up and convenient to use:
– Toner, ink cartridge, battery, glass, paper and furniture recycling schemes
– Recyclable product and waste collection
– Secure document shredding and destruction

IMPACT reports by UKOS provide environmental information specific to your business. They detail the environmental benefits of your buying behaviour including; reusable packaging, use of environmental products, recycling activity, eco delivery schedules and further transactional detail. This information will help you and your organisation demonstrate your commitment to reduced carbon and improved sustainability.
These reports help UKOS and our customers to collaborate further including recommendations for continuous improvement in reducing our carbon footprint.
